Edit xref in place
I have a drawing with several xrefs. My boss likes to go into the this drawing and edit the xref in place, which he has been doing successfully for weeks. Suddenly he gets the following message when he tries to edit in place: "Command: _refedit Select reference: 59766.513498,60542.117089,2170.394461
Errors found in references to other objects:
** Object reference missing: AcDbDimStyleTableRecord, to AcDbLeader." I have audited both drawings and found no errors. Other xrefs in the same drawing can be edited in place. Any help would be appreciated...we are on deadline and I'm getting yelled at! I don't know why we can't edit in place, please help!

Just because he's been "successfully doing it" for a while doesn't make it right or your fault it doesn't work.I assume he's using REFEDIT?
There have been known issues with refedit.. don't know all the details though, just there are some quirks.I found that editing xrefs using XOPEN is much more relable and stable.
That's my two cents.

Re: Edit xref in place
Thanks for the reply! I agree, I've been telling him for months that he should open the xref drawing to do revisions, but he is set in his ways, and says edit in place is faster. The yelling is just his way, I guess I'm used to it, no big deal, but I would like to figure this out. Yes, he is using refedit , anyone know how this can be fixed?

Then XOPEN the xref. If he needs to see the other information from other XREFs, then XREF those into the problem xref using the overlay setting. This will allow you to avoid the circular reference warning when referencing other files.

Re: Edit xref in place
I used to use REFEDIT until it borked one of my projects. Since then, I tell everyone not to use it. I've even had to resort to undefining it for some.

Re: Edit xref in place
I have setup these 2 options up on most of the computers here just to keep people from using the Refedit command...
If you go into your options, under the Open and Save Tab.... On the right hand side in the middle you will see an area that says External Refrences (Xrefs). There is an option there that is checked on called "Allow other users to Refedit current drawing", uncheck this box. It is all so the XEDIT system variable, set that to 0.
Also too, I would go onto his computer and change his double click option in the CUI for xref from Refedit to XOPEN... these 2 things should help keep him happy and keep your drawings from getting corrupted.

Re: Edit xref in place
Thanks for all the support. I finally fixed the xref by write-blocking everything out to create a new drawing.
In a side note; my boss has agreed that he will not use refedit anymore, so some good came from my morning of frustration!
I guess he just had to corrupt a file himself before he would learn...
